End of the year news

Don't forget....

End of the year celebration
Track 2 and 4 will be having their end of the year celebration on Monday, June 28th. The awards ceremony will be from 1:30-2:00 (parents are encouraged to come). We will then celebrate with cake and games from 2-3:30.

T-shirt Money and baby pictures
If you are interested in purchasing a Banks Road 5th Grade t-shirt, please send your child in with 5 dollars. This will help offset the cost of the shirts to the PTA

As part of our 5th grade celebration on June 28th, we are asking that you send in a picture of your child when they were a baby or toddler.

Yearbooks
Yearbooks are for sale for $7 in the front office.

Re-testing dates for track 2 are as follows:
6/14: Reading
6/15:Math calculator active
6/16:Math calculator inactive
6/17: Science

Also, news from our PTA in regards to box top labels....
Save Your Box Tops - Banks Road is now a participating Box Tops school! This means that you may turn in clipped Box Top logos that are found on hundreds of products ranging from cereals, fruit snacks, Kleenex, Hefty, Avery labels, Scott and Cottonelle toilet paper, Huggies diapers and wipes, etc. Please put clipped Box Tops in a Ziploc bag/envelope labeled with your child’s name, teacher’s name, grade, track & # of Box Tops included. We encourage you to neatly clip and turn in Box Tops in even dollar amounts. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents to Banks. So a baggie of 50 is worth $5.00. Currently, you need to turn in your Box Tops in the Campbell’s soup bin located at the cafeteria exit. Please save and submit your Campbell’s Labels for Education points in a separate envelope to the same container. Campbell’s points are generally located around the UPC code of all soups, Spaghettios, Pepperidge Farm cookies and crackers (goldfish!), V8, Prego, etc. Campbell’s points allow Banks Road free products from their catalog of school equipment, but Box Tops should be treated as cash because General Mills will send us a check twice a year. A dime at a time really adds up. For more information go to www.btfe.com and www.labelsforeducation.com .

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing track out. Below are a few reminders of what will be coming in the next three weeks.
-Barnes and Noble Bookfair to support Banks Road Elementary December 1st and 2nd
A percentage of the net sale will be donated to our school.
-December 17th, 18th are the official collection dates for D.C. money.
However, you may turn D.C. money anytime in the month of December.
-Geobread House supplies are due by Friday, December 11th
(cube shaped tissue box, a box of graham crackers, 2 cans of non-creamy vanilla frosting, a piece of cardboard to place your geobread house on).
Please see prior posting for donation requests.
-If you are planning to chaperone for the D.C. trip, please make sure you have gone online in the front office to request level 4 clearance.
-All level 4 thinking opportunities are due by Friday, December 11th.

This month, we will be combining our social studies, reading, and writing objectives to conduct research on what life was like in the colonies. Then, we will be writing a research report to organize and present the information we obtained from our research.

In math, we will continue to work on solving word problems, as well as analyzing data from graphs to solve problems. Lastly, we will also use our understanding of geometric concepts to create a geobread house during the last week of school.
